Why we called it Concierva: a virtual concierge with the standards of a real one
Concierge plus virtual assistant: the story behind the name Concierva, what a great concierge does, and what we believe should always stay human.
We called it Concierva because the name says what we want the product to be: a concierge, made virtual. “Concier” comes from concierge, the person in a good hotel who knows the answer or knows who does; “va” comes from virtual assistant, the part that answers at any hour, on any channel. The name is also a promise we hold ourselves to, a concierge virtual assistant should behave like a great concierge, not like a search box.
What a concierge has always been
The word comes from French, where a concierge was the person who looked after a building and knew everyone who came and went. In hotels it came to mean something more particular: the person at the desk by the door who could find you a table, a theatre ticket, a doctor or a quiet route to the station, and who seemed to know the town better than the town knew itself. Some concierges still wear crossed golden keys on their lapels, a small sign of a profession that takes pride in getting things right.
What made a concierge good was never the information alone. It was a set of habits:
- They listened to the actual question, not the one they expected.
- They remembered the guest's name, the reason for the trip, the child who did not like fish.
- They recommended what they knew, from places they trusted, and said so when they did not know.
- They said “let me find out” rather than guess.
- They knew when to call the manager, and handed over without making the guest repeat everything.

Why “virtual” is half the name
Most small hotels, guesthouses and villas cannot have someone at the desk at three in the morning, or someone who speaks every guest's language, or someone who watches the Booking.com, Airbnb and Expedia messages while also answering the phone and WhatsApp. The questions arrive regardless. A guest standing at a locked door at midnight does not care how many staff you have.
That is the part a virtual assistant can carry. It does not get tired, it can reply in the guest's language, and it can read the booking before it answers. The word “virtual” in the name is not a boast; it is a description of the gap we are trying to fill.
How the product tries to keep the standard
A name is easy. The harder part is making the software behave like the concierge it is named after. We try to hold Concierva to the same habits:
- Answer the question that was asked, in the first sentence, not a pasted template.
- Read the booking first, so the reply uses the guest's name, dates and room.
- Speak the guest's language, on the phone and in writing.
- Recommend only from the property's own information, and say honestly when something is not known, rather than invent it.
- Hand over cleanly: cancellations, refunds, payments and complaints go to a person, with a summary, so the guest does not have to explain twice.
- Earn trust slowly: draft mode lets you approve every reply before anything goes out on its own.
If you want to see the difference between this and a simple bot, we wrote about it in virtual concierge versus chatbot.
A concierge is judged less by what they know than by what they do when they do not know.
What stays human, honestly
We did not name it after the concierge to suggest it replaces one. Some things belong to people and should stay there. The welcome at the door. The judgement call on a difficult complaint. The decision to waive a fee for a guest who had a bad night. Flowers in the room for an anniversary, chosen by someone who read the booking and cared. Fixing the boiler. Any conversation about money.
What a virtual concierge can do is make sure those moments get the attention they deserve, because the repeated questions about parking, breakfast and Wi-Fi have already been answered well. That, for us, is the point of the name: the standard of a great concierge, available at every hour, with people kept for what only people can do.
Where Concierva fits
Concierva is an AI concierge and channel manager for small hotels, guesthouses and villas. It answers by phone, WhatsApp, website chat and in Booking.com, Airbnb and Expedia messages, from your property's own information, and keeps one calendar across your booking channels. The product page explains each part in more detail.
It is set up personally by our team, works on top of the system you already use where a connection is available, and always passes cancellations, refunds, payments and complaints to a person.

It combines concierge and virtual assistant: “concier” from concierge and “va” from virtual assistant. It describes a concierge that answers guests at any hour, on any channel.

No. It takes the repeated questions and the hours nobody can cover, and passes complaints, refunds, payments and judgement calls to a person.

A virtual concierge reads the booking, answers the actual question in the guest's language, recommends only from the property's own information and hands over sensitive matters with a summary.
